30 years

Global warming began 30 years ago. Well, earlier, actually, but this article at China Dialogue looking at climate change from the point of view of the author’s 76-year-old mother, is well worth a read, in part because it’s a reminder that there are plenty of people out there who do observe what is happening around them and notice what’s causing it all.

  1. Actually, I’ve seen a reference to global warming dating from the early 1960s, although it may have been little more than a theory in those days; or might’ve had a slightly different meaning.

  2. The theory’s certainly been around for a long time, scientists do tend to be pretty smart folk capable of looking over bigger issues and longer timeframes than most. But it’s just interesting to read this old lady without a huge amount of education talking about how she’s been watching it happen for the last 30-odd years, being so certain of the causes, and all of her talk being basically in line with what the experts have been saying.
