Oops! A slight typo, but it worked. I typed the Unicode codes for the characters in instead of copying and pasting the characters from charmap. Bit of a bloody nuisance to do it this way, though.
Seems you need a proper IME.

Damn, those characters didn’t work.
It seems that the browser will only render characters in comments correctly if you tell it the codes.
Most of the time, cutting and pasting characters from charmap is enough for me. Using the Unicode codes is, as I said, a bloody nuisance.
