  1. Not that big a surprise. There was a photo of the new pagoda in Changzhou in the SCMP recently. Obviously, all the important Party officials would’ve been there (and would’ve been behind approving the Â¥100 million it cost to build this mounment). The mayor of Changzhou said without a hint of irony or intelligence, “The development of religion is closely linked to the development of our economy.”

  2. I forgot. I was going to explain why I didn’t categorise this as news. Yep, what struck me about this article was that none of it could have been called surprising or news unless you’ve spent the last 8000 years under a rock in Ningxia carving pictures to fool archaeologists.
