breaking news?

Why does the NZ Herald have a banner across the top of its site screaming: “Breaking news: NZRU over emphasised World Cup- report”?

  1. This is not news. Anybody who so much as glanced at any New Zealand newspaper in the long, long run-up to the World Cup knew that it was being blown way out of proportion.
  2. Isn’t “breaking news” supposed to refer to things that could actually be considered important? Or at least “big”?

Pathetic.
