Bob Dylan has gone electric!

Ummm, errrr, no, but Quanjude is going electric. Apparently they’ve developed this fancy, new, computerised roasting technique in electric ovens in cooperation with some apparently nameless German company to ensure quality across all of their operations. Quanjude has been expanding, with:

…nine restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Changchun and 61 franchised outlets, including 56 on the mainland and five overseas.

Wow. And it seems they plan to keep growing. So I guess you can’t blame them for doing a McDonald’s and developing methods to ensure a standard product across all its operations. They have a brand to protect, after all.

Actually, some of the stats in that article are really quite impressive: more than 3 million ducks served to some 5 million customers each year, for example. The business stats seem just as impressive to me, but that’s probably because I know nothing about business.
