So I solved one little problem last night. lzh told me the story of her father’s grandfather putting his two children in a bucket each, hanging them from a carrying pole, slinging the pole over his shoulder, and walking over to Yanqing. Trouble is, it wasn’t clear if it was lzh’s great grandfather who left Shanxi in the late 19th or early 20th centuries or if she is one of the people of the Great Scholar Tree. I asked Ba about that last night, and he said it happened ages ago, it was his granddad’s granddad’s granddad’s…….. So as it turns out, lzh is a descendant of the migrants of Hongtong’s Great Scholar Tree sent out of Shanxi in the early part of the Ming Dynasty. There you go, all cleared up.
