New Zealand somehow manages to rank seventh in an “environmental performance index”. I’m surprised we do so well, considering our absurdly high per capita emissions. Of course, like almost every report in the New Zealand media on such topics, the headline has to include that childish reference to Australia, this time the boasting version: “Haha, we win, those Aussies only got 46th place!” In this context, I would’ve preferred a comparison to Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Costa Rica, the six who placed above us (in apparently that order- certainly Switzerland and Sweden were numbers one and two, respectively).

And in completely unrelated news, a statue of one of our former prime ministers has apparently caused a bit of a ruckus in Northern Ireland. Strikes me as being just as pathetic and childish as everything else in Northern Irish politics that makes the international news.

Alright, better go drag Matt off on another wild goose chase exploration of this fair city.
